Simplicity Foundation - Christmas Giving 2024

Since inception, Simplicity has been committed to creating positive change, not just for members but for all New Zealanders. That's why from the beginning, Simplicity has donated 15% of its investment management fees to the Simplicity Foundation.

Throughout the year, the Foundation supports charities working in four core sectors: the environment, youth development, education, and homelessness and hunger.

As the holiday season approaches, the Simplicity Foundation focuses its funding on organisations providing food, shelter and support to New Zealanders in need.

This year, the Foundation donated a record $600,000 to Kiwi charities across the country. These funds, directed by votes from Simplicity members, were distributed to a range of deserving organisations that focus on providing shelter, food rescue, animal welfare, and children and family well-being.

Women’s Refuge
Women’s Refuge received the largest allocation, with $160,500 donated to support their vital work providing safety and support for women and children facing family violence.

Food rescue
Food rescue organisations across the North and South Islands received a combined total of $168,000 to continue their efforts in reducing food waste and feeding those in need.

In the North Island, $100,500 was distributed among the following groups, each receiving $10,050:
- Whakaora Kai, Northland
-
KiwiHarvest, Auckland
- Fair Food, Auckland
- Go Eco Food Rescue (Kaivolution), Hamilton
- Love Soup, Auckland, Bay of Plenty, and Waikato
- Gizzy Kai Rescue, Gisborne
- Nourished for Nil, Hawkes Bay
- Food Basket, Central Hawkes Bay
- Just Zilch, Palmerston
- Kaibosh, Wellington

In the South Island, $67,500 was distributed among six groups, each receiving $11,250:
- Kai Rescue, Nelson
- Te Tai Poutini Kai Puku, West Coast
- Satisfy Food Rescue, North Canterbury
- Kairos Food Rescue, Christchurch
- KiwiHarvest Otepoti/Dunedin
- KiwiHarvest Muruhiku/Invercargill

City Missions
Auckland, Wellington, and Christchurch City Missions each received $30,800, totalling $92,500. These funds help provide meals, shelter, and support to individuals and families facing hardship during the holiday season.

Children and young people
In support of the well-being of children and young people, the Foundation donated $92,500 to Variety and the Kindness Collective. Each organisation received $46,250 to continue their work addressing issues such as child poverty and education, as well as bringing a little Christmas joy to the holidays.

Animal welfare
The SPCA and Pet Refuge received $43,250 each, totalling $86,500. These funds support efforts to care for vulnerable animals and provide safe havens for pets affected by domestic violence.

Thank you
A big thank you to every Simplicity member who participated in the voting process, helping to shape how these funds are distributed. Together, we’re making a difference, one donation at a time. Here’s to a brighter, more hopeful holiday season for all.
