Opinion
On Saturday night, I posted about Charlie Kirk after reading and watching a range of his opinions on issues important to me. I reacted strongly - and I deeply regret the wording I used, which was posted in haste. I want to apologise for the offence and upset caused by my choice of words.
I would firstly like to address that these were my personal views alone. They do not reflect the views of Simplicity or any of the staff or Directors.
When I realised my comments were coming across in a way I did not intend, I quickly removed the original post. I in no way meant to celebrate Charlie Kirk’s death; what I meant to express is this: murder is murder. Anyone celebrating Charlie’s death is glorifying an act of vengeance, and that is wrong, full stop.
I found much of what Charlie said profoundly objectionable. But in a democracy, he had the right to speak - and to live to keep speaking his views. Open debate without fear of reprisal is what has made America strong. Right now, that freedom feels under threat, and fear is in the air. My hope is that open, civil discourse can return.
My thoughts are with Charlie’s family and loved ones.
