When the Otukolo family first visited their Simplicity Living apartment, they weren’t sure what to expect. Apartment living was new to them - as a family of six, they’d only ever lived in traditional houses with backyards. But that first visit changed everything.
“Our first impression was how modern and spacious the apartments were. It definitely changed our perspective on what apartment living looks like.”
Making apartment live work for a family of six
The move was a big shift, but two years on, it’s clear it was the right one. “We saw the potential of how this could work for our family. And now we feel so blessed to be warm and cozy in winter - we walk around in t-shirts and shorts and have never needed to use the built-in heater!”
They’ve embraced everything about their new home, from the thoughtful layout and built-in appliances to the unbeatable location. “Location, location, location. We’re close to schools, public transport, shops, and supermarkets. And being on the first floor is so convenient when you’re doing groceries for six.”
New opportunities close to home
Since settling in, the family has become more connected with their local community - including enrolling their children at the nearby school. That decision led to some proud milestones, for mum who was invited to stand for the school’s board of trustees as a parent representative, and the kids.
“My son was chosen as deputy head prefect for 2024, and my daughter has already been selected to be a prefect in 2025.”
A community that feels like home
When they first moved in, they were one of the first families in their apartment block. Since then, as new neighbours and families have arrived, they’ve built some meaningful connections. “We helped our upstairs neighbours set up their internet. They babysat our kids one morning before school. Even with a language barrier, we got on really well.”
They’ve also experienced many generous moments - from neighbours dropping off food and clothing, to Christmas gifts and Easter eggs for the kids. “Although we’re all busy with our own lives, there’s a real sense of community here.”
A place to call home - for now
The Otukolos hadn’t heard of Simplicity Living before they were referred by Tamaki Regeneration. Now, after two years, they see this home as an important part of their family’s journey. “We know this isn’t our forever home, but it’s been the right place for us during this chapter of our lives. We’re grateful to be part of the Simplicity community.”
