A KiwiSaver plan that's simply better

Simplicity is an online, nonprofit KiwiSaver plan that only charges members what their account costs to manage, nothing more.

This means you could have up to $65,000 * extra by the time you retire. Maybe more.

* Please see assumptions here

Why are fees so high?

KiwiSaver Scheme Industry Profits
2030 $1.3b*
2016 $200m**

In keeping with Kiwi tradition, the Aussies are to blame. Well, at least partially.

The six largest KiwiSaver plan providers currently have over 85% market share, and the four largest are Australian owned. We think profits for KiwiSaver managers are around $200m now, and could be $1.3 billion by 2030. High profits and stable market share means there is little incentive for existing schemes to reduce fees. Kiwis have little choice but to pay up. Until now…
* Estimate based on current estimated profitability and cost bases, and assuming fees do not substantially change. Simplicity estimates. Public data is not available.

** Estimate based on reported profitability and directors' personal experience. Fees include provision for default schemes, where fees are lower.

Things have changed

Regulations now allow a 100% online KiwiSaver plan. No need for costly branches and commissions.
Technology allows a smarter, more transparent service.
This model is already very successful overseas.

Here's our new model

Simplicity NZ Ltd is a not for profit company.
100% owned
by The Simplicity Charitable Trust

We're here
to do the
right thing

Simplicity excludes tobacco, landmines, cluster bombs and nuclear weapons from its investments.

And we donate 15% of the management fees you pay to charity every year.

Our Team
Experienced in KiwiSaver.
We know first hand how others pass on their costs to members in the form of higher fees. (Come to think of it, we’ve been paying those high fees too, just like you.) So we set about creating a fairer, more honest plan that strives to maximise your returns by charging the lowest possible fees.

Okay, what's the Catch

No, you aren’t being cynical. We get it. The whole ‘nonprofit’, ‘low fees’ thing. Especially since we’ve all been told fibs on these topics in the past.

Questioning it all is good. In fact, that’s exactly what we did. And that’s why we decided we wanted to do things differently.

No shiny head offices, no costly advertising and no commissions. Just letting Kiwis keep the money they’ve worked really hard for, so they can have dignity and choice in retirement.

Simplicity puts you in control

Each fund has over 3,000 different investments in 23 countries, with international investments managed by Vanguard (who manage $5.3 trillion globally). All investments are 100% hedged to the NZ dollar.

We charge the same annual fees for all funds. $30 + $3.1 for every $1000 in your account (0.31%).
